Est. 1959

Dear Jr. Golfers and Parents,

We would like to invite you to join us for the Crab Orchard Golf Club Jr. Program. Our program will consist of several components to provide an optimal learning experience for junior golfers.

The first component is the Jr. Golf Camp. A specific schedule for Camp is attached. This camp will focus on fundamental instruction. Juniors will receive instruction on the golf swing, putting, chipping, rules, and etiquette.

The second component is golf activity throughout the summer. Older juniors (completion of fourth grade - eleventh grade) will participate in Jr. League while younger players (completion of kindergarten through completion of 3rd grade) will participate in Little Links.

Jr. League will be held on Thursday mornings beginning with an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start. We will use a team format similar to what is used in collegiate and high school team competitions. Juniors will be placed on a team depending on their ability rather than their age. The number of teams and players per team will be determined based upon the number of juniors who will participate. Player #1 from each team will compete with other #1 Players, #2 with #2ís, etc. Our format for play this year will be a little different with an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start for all players in league. Players must be at the golf course by 7:45 prepared to play in order to participate and be in position to begin. This is a significant change that is made to better serve our juniors as well as the general membership. All juniors should finish league at the same time around 10:45 a.m..

Little Links will be held on Thursday evenings beginning at 6:30 p.m. This program is for the younger players and will require parental involvement. The program will focus on skill improvement plus learning to play in a supervised environment. A detailed schedule is included in the attached information on Little Links. Each Little Links participant must be accompanied by an adult except for the Camp days.

Junior golfers will need to have their own set of clubs that fit them (an iron, a wood, putter, and bag). Appropriate footwear must be worn (tennis shoes or soft spike golf shoes are fine). Juniors are expected to dress appropriately. Shirts should be tucked in and caps should be worn in an appropriate manner. Juniors should not wear denim.

Junior golfers are expected to conduct themselves as young ladies and gentlemen. Throwing clubs, cursing, littering, disrespect to fellow juniors, instructors, or other golfers may result in exclusion from the program.

In addition to golf instruction and course usage, juniors will each receive a nice PGA Junior Golf shirt. These are very nice collared pique shirts. Our hope is that the juniors will enjoy wearing these in their golf events and will identify them as being a part of an accredited junior golf program.. The increase in fee this year is to cover the cost of the shirt. Fees for junior golf (camp and program) will be as follows:

Children of regular members--$40/child

Junior members--$40

Non members:

completed 3rd grade and younger--$75 Camp and Little Links

completed 4th grade and older--$125 Camp and Junior League

To allow us time to plan, we need juniors signed up by Friday, May 21. Please return completed entry application if your child plans to participate. If you have questions, please contact me at 985-2321. We look forward to a great summer of golf.
